I know a man, and unfortunately he has to have two seats. He is really obese. When he books his flights he tell them his size/weight so that it will be pre-booked so not to cause embarrassment at boarding or when seating. It happened to him once on the plane, had to switch to a section of the plane that had two seats available, and it was charged to his credit card, which he did not knwo would happen until he got his bill in the mail. So if you are really big, expect this to happen. Is it right? I have mixed emotions on it. If someone is on a fully booked plane then yes charge them, but if there are many empty seats, no.

Yes the seats are made for normal size people , This way her obesity isn't pouring out over the seats onto someones lap . Not trying to be nasty , just stating the facts !

If a person takes up more than one seat, they should pay for the space they take up. Additionally, airplanes can only carry so much weight. People who are overweight cause the airplane to be able to carry fewer passengers and/or cargo. It's just a fact of life. I'm sorry your friend is unhappy but she should still have to pay.

Airlines should jus make seats that r a lil bigger for bigger ppl n mayb hav them pay a lil more for the special seat. but i dont think bigger ppl should hav to pay for 2 seats and i dont think smaller ppl should hav to deal w/ a bigger person takin up half of there seat. So airlines need to find a better solution.

If your A*s takes your assigned seat and part of the other one next to it, YOU SHOULD DEF pay for 2 seats. Unfair to the other thin person to have someone Else's over-lappin booty on theirs. Very uncomfy! As it is, those coach seats are so small in space. I would hate it if my neighbor is hoggin' up all that tiny space.

IF this person takes up MORE than one seat then yes they should. And when I say more than one seat I don't mean it that they are taking TWO seats. BUT if they are actually using even PART of the second seat then sorry, but yes.

I'm a bigger girl so please dint think that I'm saying this just because I'm a skinny b***h who wouldn't know fat if it fell on me.
but
i feel that if the person is so big that they wouldn't comfortably be able to fit in a regular seat then yes they should have to pay extra for a second seat. this would not only make their flight more comfortable for them but it would also be less of an inconvenience for those who may have to sit next to that person. i mean i wouldn't feel very comfortable brushing up against some stranger and i wouldn't want to brushed up against by a stranger either.

Well not to be mean but yes your friend should of paid for two seats if she took up two seats. It's not really fair to the airline to loose money they could of made off of selling that extra ticket just because someone is too large, is it?

nope, I think airplane seats are too small anyway...for normal size ppl, but I guess they are justified in this b/c if your gonna take up two seats you gotta pay for them both...so they should make the seat a lil larger...

No!! Obesity should be viewed as a medical condition and in todays world with obesity an increasing problem, airlines should be more flexible and accomodating. It is victimisation. Do they ask someone in a wheel chair to pay for extra space if they cant use an airline seat, no. They even take out a seat to give them extra room.!! No difference as far as Im concerned.
