So far it looks like everyone thinks you are asking how to make a big hit. I'm guessing you are more interested in bringing the guy down and being sure to do it. Leave the impressive devastating hits for the bigger guys.

As a small corner with a big back coming at you the best way to make sure you bring him down is to NOT try to make a big hit. Trying to do so will give him the opportunity to put a move on you and score.

Keep your eyes on his chest. Close in and keep your eyes on his chest until your face mask hits his chest. Wrap your arms around, grab on tight, don't let go, and he will go down.

Hitting low and driving is how to make a highlight reel. Hitting high and holding on is how to save your team from a breakaway touchdown.

Apparantly Shrekkiller only went semi pro, cause he never learned proper technique.

The text book example of a smaller dude wrapping up a power runner, can be found in the highlights of the Bengals?Lions preseaon game when the safety (Ndukwe) kneecapped Bell.

Like several of the guys above said.....Low means leverage.... you go for the torso shot, and the dude can run you over (especially at your size). As for the head issue...thats why you have shoulder pads....tuck your head BESIDE his knees or thighs and wrap his knees together, which trips people up.

High shots LOOK wonderful when they work......but they have a high percentage of failure....and plenty of these DBs and Linebackers that get hurt, are from high shots....

Knees are your #1 target......plus it makes people skittish...you should see how player respond to chop blocks.....get them leary of you and cautious......and you own them.

*Ken K obviously does not understand the law of physics...when two force meet on an even plane, the on with the greater momentum (speed and mass) will ALWAYS prevail. The only way to counter is leverage....and by hitting high you surrender your center of gravity and therefore your leverage. ( look at greek wrestling stances....they are low for a reason). High hits are desperate hits, ot done by guys with poor technique. You will only consistantly prevail on them if you are the bigger stronger guy, and if the guy you meet, doent play low himself. Again.....avoid tthe chest, UNLESS you want a nerve stinger, or a concussion.

One of my favorite highlights about why you DON'T make the high wrap was 2 seasons ago, when Tab Perry (Bengals) was making a return....and ran about 40 yards of it with a corner or safety securely "wrapped" around his waist.

Here is the secret, you have to hit the man coming at you harder than he hits you. The hardest hit wins out no matter what size. Hit him low and don't use your helmet. That is unfair. trying to tackle a man on the run up high is no good. you have to take his legs out from under him or make yourself a brick wall. if you are faster than he is when y'all meet then BAM he is going down. its a physics thing. take two balls and toss one at the other they meet and bounce off each other. now toss one ball faster at the other ball what happens. the slower ball s stopped dead in its track. It is what we call the slap. the greatest runners in the world all have one thing in common they use the slap. They know if they are faster than their opponent ,when the collide they will walse right through that player and keep running.

The best way I can say is just to get low and use proper form. If you hit him in the legs this way you shouldn't get hurt. I played safety in high school and I was only 6 foot and weighed about 156. You just have to always do your best to use proper form.

get in front of him, square up, get low, INITIATE contact, wrap, & drive hips. I play Stong side OLB & am only 155 LBS. Dont think he is going to run you over just concentrate on making the hit. I guarentee the reason your asking is your afraid about when you get in the game, but when you get in you do not think you just react trust me thats what i did. just work on it at practice so it eventually becomes second nature. With EXP you will get better it just takes some time.

Aim right between his belly button and the bottom of his shoulderpads. Do it right and you'll knock the wind right out of him. As soon as your face mask finds flesh, wrap up, lean in, and then act like your on the up press of a squat, lifting him off his feet. Finally drive his D*%k in the dirt.
