many factors: how much are you charged per therm? is the HW heater wrapped with insulation? are you on a budget plan?

Apparently you have your hot water heater connected to the boiler, a savings in itself but, you have to control your wife.

A hot water boiler is very cheap to run, I have had several type of furnaces through time and the hot water boiler is by far the best. I just replaced mine with a new one and the only thing I regret is that I didn't have the water heater replaced through it.

I imagine some people like to lolly gaggle under the shower spray but, being in the services for so long I learned to SSandS in 12 minutes or less. I think most service men have learned this. When my grandkids come over for the night, one girl like to spend up to forty five minutes under the shower, I have to yell at her.

Depends on size and age and efficiency. Is it a boiler or water heater. It makes a big difference. And is it propane or natural gas.

personally i would replace it, at 6 yrs its not energy eff, there should be a label on it telling you what the cost,s would be for a yr,
a 10 to 20 Minuit shower may run the cost up,
what size is the heater ? gal wise.
