I remember they became very popular when I was in a middle school (12 years ago or so) and at that time they were absolutely one of the best selling bands.
They have six over-million-sold discs.

During the Nagano Olympics tickets for a Glay tour went on sale by telephone. On the morning the tickets went on sale, between the Olympic coverage and the folks waiting on hold for Glay tickets the phone system overloaded and it was almost impossible for anyone to get a line for about an hour. The last thing the sports journalists expected in Japan was for the phones to fail! The Olympic story of the day became the band that are so popular they can crash the phone system. The band, NTT, and the Nagano Olympic committee were all slightly embarrassed by the whole affair, but no real harm was done.

I moved from Japan to US about 4 years ago. As long as I can remember, Glay was performing on stage and was recording on and off. They had some million selling singles, but, around the time I left Japan, they were about to hit the road again as group. I don't know what happened to them... I also heard one of the members got married to one of the "Ami Yumi"(not really knowing which one married the member of Glay, though)..
