The ambulance itself, or an ambulance ride?

First off, if there is a paramedic on board, there is a charge for that. I know of an ambulance company that charges $500 just to roll an ambulance out with a paramedic on board. Anything after that gets charged as well, from oxygen to a ride on one of the benches. Paramedics have a lot of responsibility and have to go to over 1000 hours of training to do their jobs.

Can you say...E M E R G E N C Y?

99% of the time that's the only reason why. The emergency factor. Even if you don't have an emergency, it's still a very expensive luxury to have an ambulance drive to YOU.

milage, supplys used (some companys charge a flat rate no matter what they used) insurance, having trained professionals on board, it costs alot for the equipment, anything medical is exspensive... maybe if stupid people would quit calling 911 because they stumped their toes then the cost would go down!! but because these people do this, it takes an ambulance out of operation, therefor the county has to get more ambulances to cover these bs calls, which raises the costs...

if your talking about buying one, all vehicles are exspensive!!

Usually because they have a monopoly in the local area and connections with the 911 people. And people in need will pay anything when they are in severe pain or distress. Insurance companies go along. I paid $800 for a 2 mile, broken leg taxi ride.

An amblance is an ordinary cargo van, such as a Ford Econoline, that has been specially modified. It is the modifications that make it expensive. It becomes then a specialty vehicle.

They only make one way trips.Plus the crew has to get paid between calls.Try getting one in third world countries, they work for less, and don't face the licensing requirements U.S. Paramedics have to go through. They don't get sued for malpractice either.Try to find someone that will work long shifts, take calls 24/7,even holidays, and you'll understand.

I star that. I understand the equipment and certified workers. But damn. What about just the ride with some vital signs read.
One weeks pay for the average person.

Everything related to medicine is expensive. It's all about the greed of the people on top.
