Yes in many ways it is,because those who are abusive inevitably find their way around such regulations while honest expression is often stifled. More discipline needs be exercised on the gateway rather than the course. People need to be held responsible for what they say rather than be prohibited from saying it.

I don't think that would be silly if the forum for discussion are composed of the world leaders ever assembled. There is a need to regulate to maintain a decorum. Otherwise it is very hard to handle such a forum. However, the regulation must not be so stringent that the exression of an idea of a person will ever be cutailed.

No, it is not silly at all. Some individuals have used questions and answers that clearly show sign of either insanity or deep degradation. When such individuals are totally abusive they contribute nothing positive to the forum -- instead they disrupt everybody else.
Others, though not clearly not insane, are simply full of nothing but profanity and vulgarity; this too doesn't belong in a public forum. For Yahoo to keep things civil is the only way to make things work.
Disagree or agree, but be civil about it. Frankness should not be excluded, but let's learn to discuss things somewhat civilly.

I don't think ideas should be regulated, but society needs to be civil and and I can understand a certain amount of regulation with regard to keeping discussions socially appropriate.

If I set up a forum, I'd want it to be free of profanity, and appropriate for everyone to use, as it could ruin it for some if it were not.
So, no, I don't think it's silly.

No, because if you don't regulate the topics, too much time would be wasted on trivial subjects.....

YES, it is absurd!
If you don't like a question or answer, then respond. If you can't respond, then ignore. If you can't ignore, then you're a child!
