In a home that was happy (not a drunk or a couple that were not in love ) This is how it was .
It worked too women were thought of as a helper and loved and respected .
The husband had all the responsibilities so why not let him have a bit of peace and quite when he came home .(also proven to work with men ) .

Times have changed and in some ways it isnt for the better .

I think it is great that we dont have this organised structures in life. Now we can do what we want when we want and if I feel like not going to work today then I dont. If I get the sack then that is ok with my other half because I dont have to be a slave to anything. The government looks after us if we feel we just dont want to work right now. Its kind of fun for the kids too, its like a game of organised caos.

So now I am home doing the choirs and cooking whenever I feel like it. The kids get fed every day, sometime at 10pm at night but still fed none the less. My wife works now and comes home and nothing is done but I start to clean and cook as soon as she gets home. I dont get to spend much time with her as I am too busy making up for what I didnt do during the day. But it is all worth it because I got to go shopping with the boys and have a lunchen and watch days of our lives.

It might sound frantic but it works and nobody is affected by, and if they were, tough, thats what I can do becuase society says I do what I want so I am.

Actually, this article is absolutely true. My mom gave me the original book, which was "Hints from Heloise," something she received as a wedding gift. I have the book here, so yes, this was really the proscription for women of the time. I also have one from the 1800s which wasn't all that different (I collect old books, btw).

I actually remember reading that. About ten years ago, I started collecting old "home ec" books from the 40's, 50's and 60's in an effort to make sense of my own upbringing during those stressful, confusing times. Thanks for the link to this. I'm adding it to my collection.

It's not sexist. If you were working at a job you hated for 10 hours a day only for your husband to spend it all, wouldn't you like him to spoil you a bit?

I live in the real world, with real concerns, and real problems. If anyone expects this to be true, they haven't lived real life.

My mother, who lived through that period, says that it was not nearly as male-dominated as the article suggests. She thinks it was a fake article that was written years later.
