How would you describe the results in thermodynamic and biochemical terms?

Measure entropy of food, water, oxygen, and the person himself. Wait a week then measure entropy of poop, pee, exhaled CO2, and infrared radiation give off by body heat, and the person again. Subtract second sum from first. If it's a positive number, 2nd law is obeyed.

You could realize that the second law of thermodynamics states that entropy can decrease locally if you add energy to a system. And we've got this great big shiny source of energy up there in the sky ...

Enclose life inside airtight, light proof container, put in freezer (or better yet, dunk in liquid nitrogen) and wait.
After a few days, open container and notice life is dead.

This shows volume control without exterior energy is incompatible with life.
