It is funny - the moment I saw your question - TWEETY bird just flashed across my mind! And you can even hear the evergreen "I thot I thot I saw a putty cat!"
Then Big Bird from Sasame Street, then I recall numerous characters from Sasame Street, then the Muppets - Kermit etc ...
