From today's standpoint, no.
But that's not the viewpoint they were considered under. In 1969, they were heavy metal.

Yes....at times they were Heavy Blues, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.

Nope - they're a (great!!) classic rock band. At least, that's what I think. They might have been considered metal in the late 60's-70's, though. =)

NO! I would consider them more as Acid Rock. Although I'm sure they were a catalyst for Metal...

Yes it was when they first came out and I was listening to them. But that was also back in 1970 so definitions change.
