Sounds stupid, ik, but me and my friend are having a little dispute over it. So if you can think of any possible ways to break your leg playing baseball, can you please list them??

THANK YOU! ;]

My grandson's team soutwest texas had a player that got his leg broke by a runner coming in from 3rd base ( he was not the catcher)..but tried to get the boy out..and the boy slid and broke his leg...this was at the semi-finals little league playoff in Lubbock,Tx..Saw it, was sitting next to Coach Knight and Coach Leach from Tech...thought it was nice for those guys to come out and watch the boys...they lost, but held dr3 place the following day in Pennsylvania....

There are many ways you can break your leg in baseball. The main way usually seen is if your cleat sticks in the ground and you twist your leg. This has caused many knee injuries throughout the years. The other ways mentioned in previous answers can all possibly cause a broken leg as well. Look up Mickey Mantle and see about his leg injury early in his career.

Sorry about your broken leg, I'm still working through mine. Being bedridden is tough. I mostly looked at TV and did a lot of reading. I hope that you are not confined to bed for the duration. Hopefully, you can get up and onto crutches which will give you mobility and you can live a somewhat normal life. Be sure to learn the proper way of using crutches and they are not so bad, especially since you are athletic, you should not have a problem with them. Please feel free to email me with questions, concerns or if you need cheering up. I am happy to be of any help.

barb references the first example I was thinking of -- Bob Gibson took a line drive off the bat of Roberto Clemente right in the shin. Being the tuff guy he is, Gibson pitched to three more batters (poorly) before leaving the game. That was July 15; he didn't pitch again until September. Nick Johnson is still not fully healed from his broken leg.

It's rare, but it does happen.

Ed.: Thought I'd forgotten someone -- Colorado's Jason Hirsch, just this season. Line drive, similar to Gibson.

Bob Gibson of the Cardinals in the 1960s pitched a game with a broken leg....I believe it was a cracked bone and not a complete break but still the pain must have been unbearable.

* Sliding into a base
* Colliding with another player
* Tripping over a base and falling
* Running into the fence or another object near the field
* Getting your spikes caught in the ground and falling

I've suffered numerous sprains and ligament problems playing baseball. And my worst injury was a skull fracture (left orbital rim). While I was running to third, the shortstop swung his elbow back while catching a ball and hit my forehead.

it's possible to break your leg getting out of bed, of course it's possible to break it playing baseball. Check out the Moises Alou video a couple of years ago. That was the nastiest thing i had ever seen.
