Easiest thing to do is go to a website of a company that makes computer memory, like Crucial.com, Corsairmemory.com or Kingston.com.

Their websites provide a tool that can determine what memory your computer uses. Even if you decide to go with a different store, at least you will know exactly the kind of memory your motherboard supports, the maximum amount of memory it will support, and what configurations it supports.

Personally, I just recommend buying directly from the websites. Most of the computer makers, like Dell, buy this same memory - only they charge you twice as much as the manufacturer does. The manufacturers will give you a better guarantee and warranty, too.

- go to www.crucial.com - check for offer to test yr RAM online
- click on it - the moment Crucial's server contacts yr computer if yr firewall is installed you'll get pop-up window (warning) that another computer is trying to reach yr computer - click ALLOW
Crucial's server will check yr RAM online and tell you just everything - best feature is it will tell what is new memory that can replace yr old RAM - newer memory always operate on higher frequency meaning moves more data in shorter time
- go always with newer type of RAM crucial's server tells you
Once you know exact new RAM type forget about pins - that is it - Crucial service is FREE and lasts only a short time - just a few seconds.
You know that you always install memory in pairs - that way both computer and RAM operate most efficiently

what's the mainboard? It's an old pentium 3 so just by telling them that alone they can probably tell you. I'm guessing 184 pin. not sure, it's been so long

RAM won't help as much as you think. You need a new computer.
