I beleive,
Bible has changed the way one lives
LOTR has changed the way one can imagine, thinks.
For sure if art is concerned then in this era, LOTR has created a world out of a book. In case of Bible (or Quran or all other divine writes) it is a world in a book.

The question assumes that the Bible is a work of fiction. While parts of the Bible are parables and other parts are arguably mythology, there are also parts of the Bible which are verifiably historically true. Other parts of the Bible are writings on philosophy or morality and some parts are poetry.

In short, the Bible is not one work but many works -- most of which would not qualify as fiction even if not 100% accurate.
A work can be in error but still qualify as non-fiction -- a flawed history is still a history.

On the other hand, the Lord of the Rings does qualify as fiction. However, it can not be the greater work of fiction as greater is a comparative term. An apple can't be a greater apple than an orange.

I believe that much of the general idea of movement by people in the Bible is true. So, it can not be said that the Bible is fiction, because much of it is based on fact. The Lord of the Rings is vintage fiction and is the standard for fantasy. The Bible is the greater work because so many people have it and believe in it, but because it is not really completely fiction I have to go with the Lord of the Rings.

The Lord of The Rings is a greater work of fiction because it only has one author, many people contributed to the bible, allegedly.

My friend, bible is no fiction. It has more people in more ways than one can possibly imagine, it is still the fastest selling book in history. It continues to inspire people and guide them, even after 2000 years. ...and life goes on...
I have read Dan Brown's Da vinci code and I consider it one of the greatest novels ever. He certainly is an excellent author. The Da Vinci, whether true or not, is certainly a good book. A little bit of raking up, observation and ideas on the author's part, no doubt.
It's an excellent read.
I have read Lord Of the Rings, but I think the movies are much better than the books. The books are too detailed and doesn't get to the point quickly. Drags on and on...
So, in my opinion, Harry Potter series are the best series of novels EVER. Lord of the rings might take the second place.

Well, pal, what's your question?

Does it really matter???

The Bible may well be fiction but it inspires belief and hope in millions of people. LOTR could never do what the Bible has done. The Bible has brought people out of the depths of despair and made them want to live life again, how could a book about elves ever do that???

When you read the Bible, you do it to find some sort of comfort in a world that doesn't have many places to do that.

The Bible may be a great work of fiction but to me its a timeless piece of art!!!!

Since there is no good (re: scientific) evidence that the bible is fiction (other than the 7 day thing, if you take the 7 days literally), then I will have to go with LOTR.

Seriously, claiming the bible is fiction is kind of silly. If you have faith that it is false, there is no good reason to make it sound as if that were an established fact - which is what you are trying to do.

Defo the Lord of the Rings, It's more believable than the Bible and it only took one person to write it. I didn't get bored reading it either!!!
