My girlfriend and I are having an argument about what breeds a worse work culture - flagrant use of Myspace or Fantasy Football. I just wanted other opinions.

Myspace by a mile!!! Completely frivolous!!

Football (and pro sports in general) are part of the work culture to begin with- Fantasy Football is just the electronic vice du jour- the media is fascincated with it right now.

The games are played on the weekend & people have all week to get their rosters set. The time requirement is pretty minimal, I can set my rosters in just 10 minutes a day. The fact that some hardcore stat jockeys with no life CAN obsess over their teams all week doesn't mean they must, or that most people do.

And the extracurricular distraction of Fantasy Football is *nothing* compared to March Madness and the ridiculous deluge of brackets!!!

Fantasy football is way worse. When someone goes on MySpace it may only be for a few minutes to check their messages or whatever. Of course, there are times when people are on longer, but for the most part fantasy seekers spend much more time on line. Just trying to look at scores only takes a few seconds, but usually you have your scores checked on Sunday night or Monday night after or out of work. Most of the fantasy footballer's surfing is spent looking for new players or looking at news or checking out others' rosters trying to look for trade oppurtunities. All this is extremely mesmerizing and next thing you know, you've been online for hours and haven't really accomplished much. Not that you accomplish much on MySpace, I just don't think it has the hook on it's users that fantasy football has on it's. Fantasy football is by far the more addictive drug.

Myspace is a work no-no,

but every place I have ever worked for the past 20+ years has always had fantasy football, baseball, basketball, you name it sports teams amongst co-workers and online

I don't know about MySpace, but Fantasy Football is for losers. They not only need a real hobby, they need a life.
