In theory you could, if you supplied enough guns and cash to sustain their efforts until the other side was completely broken and had nothing. Of course the side you are supplying may end up being the side you should not have backed and turn around and bite you.

I think it would be a bad idea to do so. It would make things a lot worse, not better. :|
