It does make one wonder what the deal is with China. One can see that China and the US are the two biggest kids on the block and are bound to tangle eventually. I would say that sooner is better than later.... Let's boycott them now and force the issue.

Are you living in a vacuum?

First, its been all over the news that China is well aware of these problems and is actively doing something about it.

Manufactures that outsource to China are finally becoming proactive and putting people on the manufacturing floor in China, like Mattel Toys.

Third, China's wages are considerably less then ours, therefore we can not compete and if we were to bring all of our manufacturing back home, you wouldn't be able to afford the basic necessities of life.

My other question to you is, do you think everything stays the same and this China problem will never get fixed?

Pretty soon this will be forgotten and something else will crop up to bash China about.................in the mean time, did you know they made that kids mom a suspect? You better run over there and bash that too.

Peace

Jim

Well, honey, it's a little more difficult and involved than your simplistic approach. The US and China are tied together in so many financial ways that if we boycotted or cancelled our own economy would crash. The companies that deal with them do their best to make sure everything is to our standards and most is done just so, but when dealing with third world countries you just never can be sure. All the gift items and most of your clothing, even the designer pieces you aspire to are made there. If you really knew how much of our ecomony is based on Chinese made product your head would spin. Do they have to make some changes....yes. Will they....yes. They also know their own economy depends on the Western world's acceptance of their products. China may be a communist country but it is aspiring to capitalism in a huge way. The Olympics being held there for the first time is huge for them and they are not going to continue to make mistakes that could cost them the notoriety they so desire. All things will come around.

You're looking for public outcry!?

And you expect this from fat, stupid, sedated and lazy Americans!?

Oh honey, please don't hold your breath.

No see there will be no public outcry here.

Was there a public outcry when the 2000 Presidential election was stolen? Do you recall any public outcry after 9/11 when the administration at first insisted there was NO NEED to investigate only the biggest and deadliest attack on our native soil in our nations history? Do you remember the public outcry when it was learned there were no weapons of mass destruction, or when we became a country of torture and sedition, or when the national surplus turned into a trillion dollar national debt? Do you hear public outcry over 45-million person going along everyday without medical insurance? Do you hear the public outcry over a beloved gulf state city two-years later still frozen in a state of ruin?

And on and on and on it goes...

I say this often and I will say it again... a nation and its people deserve all and everything they are willing to tolerate and ignore. IMO, we are no longer a lot of things but mostly we can no longer claim to be the home of THE BRAVE!

I wish congress would take their own advice , the democratic leaders are calling for the head of the consumer protection agency to step down for not doing her job , seeing how congress is not doing theirs either I think they too should step down , and as far as toys go , it is simple , don't trust China , don't buy their junk , stay out of wal mart , ...You can thank Clinton for this one , he opened the gate for China and wal mart as to increase the stock he , and Hillary had , in Wal -Mart , he said as does Hillary , it was for my fellow Americans , thanks Bill , and Hillary ,we appreciate it , Most toys bought for kids , are bought because parents want toys for kids , the kids could actually care less , 60% of all learning toys are used until the batteries die , and within 3 months the kids lose interest anyway ..why waste the money . Kids got along fine without electronic toys , and before all this wide selection of toys kids were brought up better , and respected the parents ,and others and they were taught to use their imaginations , now we import that for them too ... Before rows and rows of toys we have today , kids did not pitch fits in stores crying I want it , mom counting to 20 saying "NO" then get the toy anyway , which has led kids to be more self centered ..we teach the kids to live in a world of excess and it is causing more trouble than ever before , we have kids killing parents for money , kids killing because things are not their way , we buy toys because a child professional who has no children says we should , by the way that pro , is a governement employee , and the government wants us to spend ,which is why the pro says to buy it , spend and not save is what they want , so they can provide housing , food , and medical care.

The markets determine what's being sold. It's all well and good to blame China, but how many people are actually willing to stop feeding China? Every time you buy a Chinese product, you feed China. These products are commonly found in discount stores, large surface stores, other businesses and corporations that offer lower prices, often at prices local businesses can't compete with.
But if the American consumer had not fallen in love with $1 can openers, $10 radios and what-have-you, this wouldn't be a problem at all. We seem to want free markets as long as they benefit us. As soon as free markets start hurting, we start complaining. So which is it? Protect our workers, or low, low prices?
