I certainly do, seeing as how U of C is my top choice for next year. Lately, though, I have been reading about frustrated U of C students who are tired of having their institution referred to as UIC. I also have read that some people will go as far as correcting people who say "I'm (I) going (go) to U of C," by saying "Oh, you mean UIC!"

Craziness!!

Funny thing is, Brandon, there is no such a place as University of Illinois at Carbondale. You're probably thinking Southern Illinois University, which is located in the lovely Carbondale, IL. Either that or you're thinking of U of I Champaign-Urbana.

And while I know Yahoo Answers is a place to get answers to questions you don't know, I simply wanted to test whether or not what I have been reading is true. But I appreciate the attitude.

Yep, I do know the difference.

Penn State and University of Pennsylvania have the same problem. Lots of people call the University of Pennsylvania "UPenn" instead of just "Penn" to avoid confusion, but an admissions director recently said that they refer to themselves officially as Penn, and that it would be elitist to want to make sure people don't confuse them with a "lesser" university. Ironically, the University of Pennsylvania website remails upenn.edu. :P.

U of C is located in Hyde Park, and UIC is located in the near west side for its Chicago campuses. UIC also has campuses in Rockford, Quad Cities, Peoria and Urbana. Everyone who goes to a Chicago university hates the UofC students. They are viewed as the most dull and stuck up students. A lot of the college organizations are inter-connected, and like to do things for all of their chapters in Chicago. Northwestern tends to be separate from all this because of distance.

I thought this was a place for questions to be answered....if you already know the answer to your question, don't ask it on here!

To me, U of C = University of Charleston, and UIC = University of Illinois at Carbondale.

So, yes, I know the difference.
