I mean seriously... every movie I have seen with this dude, he ends up being the bad guy. Anywho, the hubby and I were wondering if there was a good action flick where he plays a different role.

Yes, there are many good films in which Al Pacino isn't the bad guy.
Some examples off the top of my head...
1. Heat. An excellent cops and robbers drama/action flick. Pacino's not perfect, but he's certainly not the bad guy.
2. Dog Day Afternoon. True, Pacino plays a back robber, but he's not really a *bad* bank robber.
3. And Justice For All. Not really an action film, but a dark comedy about the justice system. Sort of like Network.
4. Serpico. The grandaddy of 'em all. Pacino plays an incorruptible cop in New York. Based on a true story.
5. Scent of a Woman. Pacino won an Oscar. Some think he's sort of overdoing it with all the "hoo-ahs!" but whatever -- I enjoyed it.

Honestly, I think he plays more roles of being the good guy rather than the bad. So, it would be easier to list down the ones where he played a bad guy. Among them would be:
01. Dog Day Afternoon (Not really a very bad guy)
02. The Recruit (with Colin Farell)
03. Devil's Advocate (as Satan, the Ultimate Evil)
04. The Godfather (it's a crime-infested "family")

Here's a more obscure movie. It's called "...And Justice For All". Al Pacino plays a lawyer who has to defend a judge in a rape trial and he knows this man is guilty. If he doesn't, the judge will disbar him. He's an ethical lawyer. Can you guess what he does?

Please check out "The Insider" also starring Russell Crowe - it's not an action movie, but is very dramatic/suspenseful and based on a shocking true story. I also recommend "Insomnia" with Robin Williams as the bad guy!
