I have an absolute ton of stuff I need to get rid of. If I make a donation, do I write out all I donate myself for tax purposes, or do they do it? Thanks.

To make sure its accurate, YOU should, as you will find it a hard time to get them to individually list everything you donated. If the donation is over $500 in goods, it is VERY WISE to make the list yourself, and have the charity sign off on it....

Depending on the depreciating value of your items, the Salvation Army will ask you if you want a receipt. Say yes and you are done. Remember that the value of the stuff that you are donating will be similar to the value that the salvation army will be selling it for.

Make a list of the donation and make "reasonable" judment of the value of the items donated.
