This is just my personal opinion but to me the answer to your question comes down to two things:
1) The langauge you are learning
2) How much time, effort and commitment you are prepared to put in learning it.
This is my personal experience:
I spent three years learning French and four years learning German and even to this very day, I can't speak or understand a single word of either.
Now on the other hand, I took a 'quick' course in basic Spanish followed by a minor in the language and have picked it up quicker and understand it more than French and German.

Yes, it is. But everything worth learning is difficult, and difficult isn't a bad thing. If we didn't try things which were difficult, we would never be able to feel really good about having accomplished anything, because all of our successes would be no big deal. Know that it will take a lot of work and do it anyway.

Well, I'm learning spanish, and I've been taking it since kindergarten and It's pretty easy! So if your a beginner, try takin Spanish first because that's the easiest language to learn un-like German or French.

To me it is. I hv tried to learn Mandarin and despite being a Chinese i hv difficulties mastering the language. Conversing in Mandarin needs alot of practice to get the sound of the word right. When i stopped too long in speaking the language, i wld hv problem speaking it correctly. Moreover, i tend to confuse the words with Cantonese. So I ended up with half baked Mandarin and Cantonese.
As a kid, i had no problem in learning to speak Tamil and Thai. Since i hv stopped using them for many years, I hv lost them all.

I'm worried about people online here needing to learn English before trying a new language. You're on a keyboard, don't type like you're texting.
