The printers I've found (HP's in 40-75$ range) specify Windows 2000 up to Vista required. Has anyone found they will work OK with 98?? I hope to stay with HP to save on Ink cartridges. I have a 100Mhz Pentium II with 128 mb ram, 20Gb hard drive

When a new printer comes out, nobody writes drivers for Win98 anymore. You might watch garage sales for people getting rid of their old HP printers. The problem is that they last forever, so people generally don't ditch them until they are well and truly dead.

Sooner or later your Pentium II is gonna die. I see advertisements for new computers as low as $300. you might start thinking about that.

By the way where are you? I have some old printers that I'd be willing to give away, but I won't pay to ship them.

1. Walk into Best Buy
2. Ask the above question
3. They will show you what they have

Your software is 10 years old so it you are going to be very limited on your options. I worked at BB and we used to only have 1 printer that worked with 98 and that was over a year ago. I don't remember if it was HP or not though plus there is no way the cartridges will work with the new one anyway because they change that stuff all the time to make more money off you.

I can't say that you are not right, but in all my experiences with printers., Hp had the most expensive ink and refills, Just look on ebay and compare the difference between epson cartridges and hp. That's why they are so cheap, the printers, it's because they try to get you with the ink. Look at tigerdirect ,ebay, or, newegg for 98 compatible printers. or write to the manufacturers
