Quote is; "---"Reading, after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking."
I use to read too much so I will fall into lazy habits of thinking, won't I?

The brain powers the body, and reading excercises and challenges and stimulates the brain. Soo Einstein has concluded that what, excercise makes you a lazy thinker? I got a response, uhhh What??? I don't think this quote is very accurate, and that it can be disproved by anyone who thinks creatively, reader or not. I think that reading too much would make you physically unfit if you read more then you physically excercised, but not mentally and creatively. And this would therefore apply to any age, not just older people. That would make much more sense. I agree that Einstein was brilliant, so I just can't fathom why he would make such a statement. Unless it was misinterpreted. I'd like to see some more answers on this question, or at least some scientific backup.

If it is true that this is a quote from Einstein, then I can only see that he means, That some persons read to escape. That kind of reading, makes you not wiser.Because it is something like watching sopes on television you don't learn anything from that.
You only get a twisted view of what is the real world..

If you read for the sake of reading you can have a problem, but if you read with an end application in mind you are not being lazy. I think it is the application that you need to find or yes it can be lazy.

The important part are the strictures, "too much" and "too little".
I think Einstein had someone in mind and he was cautioning against reading and adopting other's views without examining them or testing them on your own. His example was to be an innovator, an original thinker. C. :)!!

okay heres what he means, so i think, learning what people already know doesnt require you to figure things out for yourself, he means that you gotta look into things yourself once in a while, it will develope better thinking habits

don't take it literally. think. what he means here is that, we must never forget our ability to think and to use our own analysis of things and not merely believing in what we have read not unless we were able to prove that it's true. ^_^

note:
don't believe me unless you have proven my point. ^_^
