The women in my family have been keeping personal journals for the last 100 years. The only time that anyone other than the journal writer sees it is when that writer dies. Then the others of the family put it away for 25 years. At that time, it is taken out and read by the other women in the family. I am approaching the time when my grandmother's journal will be taken out and each one of the women in my family will be allowed to read it. What do you think about that?

I have kept a personal Journal for many years. I ALSO keep a journal of my spiritual and witchcraft experiences, That is for my Daughter and her only to read. My personalo journal is available for all to read upon my death and is so mentioned in my will.

That sounds like an excellent tradition to me. I wish they had done something like that with my family. One of my family members did a complete genealogy of our family. What is frustrating about that is that I know who my ancestors are, but I have no idea of what their thoughts and feelings were.

Personally, I keep 2 journals. One is a personal journal that I write in every day. That one, I give a bit of detail. How I was feeling that day, what the weather was like and a brief summary of the day.

The other journal I keep for my job. With laws the way they are these days, it doesn't hurt to have something written down if I wind up in court for some reason. I keep very brief, just a one page summary of events that happened. Especially if something out of the ordinary occurred.

That's a lovely tradition.

I keep a writing journal that often features written items of a personal nature. I do not lock my journal away. I carry it with me nearly everywhere I go, so I can jot down ideas. Occassionally, I read snippets to friends or fellow writers. I often go to my journal for ideas to start more formal written work (short stories, poems). I would be upset if someone went through my journal without my permission.

Of course, that does not apply after I'm dead. I won't be alive enough to be bothered. ;)

The same here.

I keep my journal private and locked away with my other volumes.

My thoughts are important to me and, while I do not think that I am a fount of great wisdom, it would be nice to be thought of and known once I am gone.

That is why I have left instructions in my Will to have them made available to family & friends.

cover it as an fairly boring undertaking's computer? Like write MATH on the front and on the 1st few pages, some pages interior the midsection, and the back write out math problems? it fairly is the suitable i've got have been given. or you ought to purchase a style of journals that incorporate a sprint lock and key.

I think thats cool, to look back at the past & know its your family past & not a generalisation. I had never kept a diary until 2003 when it was discovered I had Pagets Disease (rare form of cancer) & grades 2 & 3 Breast Cancer, I kept it going till the begining of this year & despite there being some very personal info my family & I decided to get it published hopefully helping someone who is going through what we went through. My eldest daughter has always kept a diary & I know she would go mental if any one read them, I would never intrude on someones privacy like that unless I was invited.

That is an AMAZING family tradition. I have kept a journal for most of my life and honestly, after I die, I would love it if my family would read it... as weird as that sounds, since I barely ever let anyone TOUCH it now that I'm alive. :)

That's what everyboby is doing with Anne Franks Dairy. My dariy is private from at least my mother cause I only write in it when I am mad. I think that journals are meant to be read because it shows your side and what you are going through.

That is a pretty cool tradition. I used to keep a diary when I was younger where I recorded all of the longings (boys) of my eight year old soul, but after numerous pryings from my little sister and my own mither, I gave up.
