I want to be able to make more money for the manager of the security firm I work for. One way is to get more leads for contracts or get more customers. I need advice on how to do this and how to gain connections and information sources that could help me in this area. Any advice please?

The reason why I want to make her more money is so I can get her to rely on me more and get into her good graces. I am hoping to either take over or convince her to become my mentor on how to run my own security firm.

The easiest way is to network through groups where potential clients congregate. I have a friend who swears by the success he's had starting up casual conversations at the Lexus dealership every Saturday morning while car owners bring their cars in for the free car wash. (He has a Lexus he brings in, too, so the manager can't really carp about him being there.)
You can join local civic organizations, the Rotary Club, the Lions' Club etc., and really get engaged in their service projects. Potential clients will see you as someone with similar interests and someone willing to work on the behalf of others.
If you play golf or tennis, buy a sports membership at a local country club or golf course where potential clients play. Take lessons and make the pro your new best friend. You can trade leads.
Become active in a church or synagogue. Works the same way as the civic clubs with the members.
Pick only one or two ways to get engaged with these guys and really put time and energy into it. Be ready to provide a little free advice and help your new prospects solve problems from what ever business you do to anything they might mention--a good mechanic to a great little out of the way restaurant. If they see you as a reliable resource, they will learn to trust you and count on you when they do need your business services.
These networking skills will work for you in the security business or any other. Aren't you smart for taking the initiative.
