I know It probably wouldn't be loud unless I took the baffles(sp?) out. And yeah I know since it's a 650 it wouldn't be as loud as an 1100, but don't forget, it's not a single valve engine. I know that doesn't make it loud. Actually, I was kind of wondering if anyone here might have done something similar before...

Oh, also wanted to add, I don't want a super loud sound, but I like the midrange sound, a bit of growl, but that's it.

Wow, John Paul...you must be a wizard yourself...I've been admiring that very bike...or even the Nightster I think it's called. My bike is mostly black, which is the way I like most bikes, for some reason.

I think Vance and Hines makes an aftermarket slip-on called "The Growler" for the 650. I know they do for the 1100, I have them. They are sweet! Not loud and offensive but they rumble nicely at idle and when at cruising speed and can bark when you crack the throttle.

I would recommend that you free up the air breather at the same time. That way you will only have to rejet once. You'll like the increase in power and performance you get with these two simple aftermarket upgrades.

Since everybody else neglected my favorite exhaust I will mention the Pops Yoshimura brand exhaust. Check to see if they make them for your model bike. I put some on my Yamaha 750 and it sounded sweet. I don't like an obnoxiously loud bike, but I wanted a bit more of a "note" with my exhaust.
I was pleasantly surprised with the ease of installation and I didn't have to rejet my bike to use them. Unless you are fairly handy mechanically it's a good idea to have a skilled mechanic rejet your bike. It's kind of like tuning a piano, a master can work wonders, an amateur can do BAD things.

That Star is really lould with straight pipes! Baffles? And if you get pipes ask around which ones actually make more power. Some pipes are all noise and no power gain. 650 star is a good begineer bike. Order your 2008 Harley / Davidson Night Train yet?

just remember that less restriction in the exhaust means it will run lean. So you have to richen up the fuel mixture.
