I'm planning to make the exhaust on my 1981 Honda CB750 into drag pipes. The exhaust pipes I have now are in great shape and would like to use them.
I was wondering if anyone could suggest a site that would explain how to do this. Or.. if you could explain the steps, that would be great! Thanks everyone!

not a whole lot to making drag pipes. Making drag pipes work is a whole different story. Drag pipes are great for wide open throttle high RPMs. Think: big end on a drag race.

Now if you insist on using drag pipes, I suggest you that you put baffles in the end. These can be built or purchased. They won't affect the WOT too much and they will increase your bottom end. The only "drawback" to baffles are that they will muffle the sound a bit.

You will loose your bottom end, there just won't be a lot there. So leaving a light will be difficult. Additionally, slow maneuvers will be tricky.

I doubt you will blow a motor with full drag pipes. Harleys have been using them for years. But, make sure you have at least a couple feet of pipe. What will cause devastation is sucking cold air in the exhaust valves. It will likely break a valve and create carnage.

Not a good idea.
It's an inline 4 that does not have a lot of low end power to begin with. If you run open pipes, your bottom end will fall to next to nothing. You do need some back pressure.

It's not the answer you want, but I don't recommend it.

okay squid-- if you want to blow your engine, because you don't have enough back pressure, go right ahead and mess up perfectly good pipes.

buy performance flow pipes they have the back pressure to set your bike where it needs to be. but keep in mind pipes don't change much by themselves. it takes changes on the other end and in the engine as well to see a real benefit. you should only change the pipes (or modify them) if they are completely worthless, or you have done so much to your bike that they are no longer practical; either way ANY MOTORCYCLE MECHANIC can show you what to do, and anyone AT A TRACK who works on their own bikes will show you.
