I'm very talented at writing, and i have been writing short stories and such since I was 14 or so. I haven't gone to school for writing, but is it still possible that if I wrote a book (which is what I want to do) that it would get published...?

There is no reason why you can't. There are certain publishers who want college grads, but not all of them. I woiuld advise you to join some kind of a writers group or even look for a class in a community college.

Writing is a gift from our Creator. However, once you have been given that gift, it is your obligation to train it and hone it into a skill and talent. If you have the ability to play the piano, you don't just race out to perform at Carnegie Hall. You train and practice until you are ready. The same goes for authors.

The thing is the less trained you are, the more likely you are to require a very costly edit before you can shop the book around. So consider investing some money in training yourself. Community colleges are cheap and there are grants, scholarships, even work study programs.

My best advice is to train yourself. It will help you in the long run. Pax- C

CaroleG: I am not sure if this is the answer you are hoping for but I did not go to college for writing; however, I did go to college for accounting and business administration in addition to an extensive program in medical transcription. In 2005, I published my first novel titled, Greed, Murder, Lies - Can Love Survive.

In the time prior and since, I have had other works such as articles published both online and in print. It is my hope to return to college through a distance program but so far, I have yet to find the best program for me offered through a college with accreditation that will allow me the opportunity to file for and receive financial aid to afford the BA degree in something similar to or relating to creative writing.

Just so you know, The Gotham Writer's Workshop (http://www.writingclasses.com/) does not have accreditation and does not offer financial aid. Your best bet if you want to learn more in an academic setting is to find a college that offers a program via distance learning or find a college nearby. The University of Vermont offers a distance learning program through what they call Union Institute and University. It is a part of the college only the classes are online unlike attending the campus classes of University of Vermont. I did not mean to add more but once I noticed the link to Gotham, I felt it important to warn you ahead of time so you did not get your hopes up as I did when I first found their program online. I would rather wait and find something that would offer accreditation and a real degree certificate in the end if I planned to put that much work into an education. It also helps that UI&U allows transfer of credits from other colleges and their credits are transferrable. Just so you know...

i've got continually needed to at some point submit some thing. i can not even say why using fact i'm no longer even particular why. i began out analyzing while i substitute into six, and located it magical. From then on, I knew that's what i needed to do. I do write for myself. each notice and character action is my own, and if i do no longer like it, i do away with it. of direction ultimately i choose for to be a large author for myself ultimate, I do exactly choose for to proportion it with the international. My friends and relatives are not fairly exciting in analyzing, they might purely study it using fact that's mine, and not using fact they chosen it. whether or no longer I printed some thing, i might nevertheless be pleased with it. using fact the two way I positioned my heart and soul into it. i'm aggressive. particularly with myself. while i understand i will do some thing, I do it. i do no longer possibly view publishing as a contest, yet extra of a large project. and that i've got challenged myself. i've got self assurance like using fact the publishing industry is so aggressive, that's a large honor to be printed. i choose for objectives to artwork in direction of. they commence small. From get the belief, write the 1st financial ruin, write ten chapters, end the e book, rewrite the e book, edit the e book, rewrite returned, etc. And in spite of everything that stressful artwork is finished and the e book is as perfect as i will make it, it could be the astounding next project to pass the subsequent step and take a glance at publishing. of direction i do no longer aspire repute and fortune, writing rarely brings the two. I purely choose for to proportion the form of magic that substitute into shared with me when I found out to study and found what yet another mind's eye could tutor me.

There is another possibility which people don't seem to have entertained, and that is that college actually might be bad for your writing. I know in my case I've had to spend years UNlearning a great deal of what I picked up there. Salinger didn't go, and he turned out alright; and I suspect that the percentage of faculty members who can't write anything beyond a thesis is fairly high.

College dose not teach you how to write book, It helps you how to write better English, writing is talent and if you can! go with it, do not be the barrier on your self, some time some editor can help you to correct some items in the book, but it is all on you.

If it's good enough and a publisher believes it will sell, it's very likely!

To which college do you think Jane Austen, Charlotte or Emily Bronte, Mary Gaskell, or Louisa May Alcott went? (That's just to name a few truly classic writers that never went to college.)

If you believe in yourself, enjoy writing and have talent, go for it!

It's fairly likely if you've written a good book and have good luck. If no publisher will take it, you can always do self-publishing....although I don't recommend it because it won't be as good and you'd have to promote your own book....but there are many ways to get published.

if you have money then you'll be able to do it easiely, but it all depends on if you can shell out some money to back your own book. If you don't have money then it is all gonna be based on how good your book is and if you can get anyone to read it, which will be extremely hard.
