You have a buffalo nickel. They were designed by James Fraser and engraved by Charles Barber,They were minted from 1913-1938.The average Buffalo nickel usually sells for around one to three dollars in grade good but your nickel has a low grade and would be worth less.Your nickel's grade is low because you said that you couldn't read the date,I have a lot of buffalo nickels without dates also.I hope this information helps answer your question.

They usually sell to people that make cut out jewelry or modern hobo nickels. I thing they pay a .25 each. There is a product available from some coin dealers that will bring the date back it is called nic-a-date. Most collectors frown on it and they have a low resale value, but to a person that can't afford all the dates, it fills the hole in the album. On thing about coin collecting is that you get to do it your way who cares what the other collectors think, besides they all do it different also. Mirrorcoin gave you the rest of the info so I don't have too.

it varies wildly(anywhere from $0.05 to $145,000) depending on the date, where it was minted, and most importantly the quality. If you can't even make out the year, then it's probably in too poor of quality to be worth anything unless it's from one of the most valuable combinations of date and mint.

5 cents.
Seriously, they aren't worth more than the actual value.
