The Japanese were the brutal military force during WW2. Read about Saipan/Tinian where they pushed women/children over the cliffs while still alive and then threw grenades on them to make sure they died then they jumped themselves or killed themselves before jumping.

Read "Rape of Naking" to get another good idea of their brutality.

They used this type of brutality on their own troops. At least they did it to themselves. Equal opportunity brutes.

In the movie, the Japanese were portrayed to be hapless victims at times, in some scenes. But they were a ruthless Army that began the anialation of nearly everyone who wasn't Japanese starting with China in 1934. The movie gave the Japanese more credit for being humane than what the reality actually was. A quick statistic I found here points out that out of all the Allied POWs in Germany (U.S., Australian, Great Britain), 1 out of 9 did not survive captivity. In Japan, 2 out of 3 POWs did not survive captivity.

Yes - we've suggested the Rape of Nanking before. Why don't you take us up on it. It's a priceless work which will REALLY help you understand the brutality of the Japanese throughout the War - which for them started well before 12/07/1941.

It was based on true events. The ruthless members of the army, the conscripted 'hapless' members, and those in between....what do you know, everyone's human. the few that surrendered, the many that commited hari kari, and those who felt honor-bound to defend the emporor and homeland at all costs...

That's what happened. It's true...Japanese mothers threw their own children off cliffs at Saipan. Some of imperial Japan's worst excesses were against their own people.
