wood comes from the thick growth of trees if you are looking at what makes the element of the wood then look at the outer circle of the wood then along the cicumference are iridescent of the root of the tree could these have some connection yes .

no wood is not trees. But it is a bi-product of trees. But then so is maple syrup and in some varieties, the roots offer many medicinal uses.
Every finished item is a bi-product of something else...
