My doctor suggested heat, but it seems like a cold compress would make more sense. What is better? My child is also breach currently and I am 32 weeks pregnant, does that have something to do with it as he kicks very low and on my hip bone at times.

I had these as well, starting with my third pregnancy. My midwife suggested I take a Vitamin E capsule each day (by mouth - it works better from the inside). It can help strengthen the veins and reduce pain and swelling.

I started taking the supplements and they provided some comfort, although nothing will work totally except for having the baby.

As for hot and cold, I find it best to alternate them for maximum relief. And sometimes it just helped to get off my feet. I would notice at the end of the day, the vulvar varicese would really start to throb so I would get in the easy chair or on the couch and put my feet up to relieve the pressure.

There's still time for your baby to turn at just 32 weeks, and yes, you can feel them kicking on the sides more! lol

This is my first of five pregnancies to have these. It is also my first baby to be breech, although she has turned now. So there may be a connection. As for relief, use whichever makes you feel better. I agree with you cold makes more sense. Heat definately wouldn't make the swelling go down. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon and I hope your baby turns soon.

Heat will dilate the blood vessels and allow blood to move out of the pelvic area. A cold compress will cause vascular constriction and the vessel will contract and hold fluid.

Cold worked better for me. My daughter was breach until 39 weeks. Good luck with that! I think a breach baby has everything to do with it. It didn't hurt like that with my other baby.
