Simply put: In order for a democracy to work everyone (or the vast majority) must be on the same page heading in the same direction.
Middle east treats one half of it's population (female) as 2nd class citizens, just maybe above their flocks. They hold hidden agendas and grievances that date back hundreds of years and only wish to settle the score. Finally, the bulk of the citizens of the middle east are religious fundamentalist (much like some of our mad dogs right here at home). If you have folk that think only about their church and that the state of the state should also be about church....democracy will always fail.....quite frankly that is why ours is on the edge now!!!!

The disagreements have been going on for too long. They were raised to kill to get what they wanted. They don't see anything wrong with that. Democracy would be too hard for them to understand. Too many people want to lead. To many people want things done their way, not the democratic way. Their way of thinking is just so twisted, I doubt there will ever be peace in the Middle East. It is a scary place to live. The only way the people in the Middle East will come together is if the world is attacked from outer space by an existance we know nothing about. Sad, scary thought, and very sad.

A quick fix never works in Nation Building i.e. the Articles of Confederation in America. It took six years to have an effective democratic system in the United States and after a rebellion the system was proven trustworthy.
In Iran the Iatola virtually rules the country.
Iraq goverment system isn't effective because they have never tried it and the people aren't used to it and they have no trust in the weak system that we helped them to create.
Turkey is probably the most democratic of all predominately Muslim Nations with its unicameral government. Israel is a parlimentry government, and the Saudi's have a Royal Family, as do the Lebanese.
We cannot assume that every country can switch over on a dime from one way of life to another. It takes time. In America's case it was an experiment, that has proved affecitve in keeping itself in line but as time goes one our government's role changes as well.
For any democracy to work anywhere you need trust in the system and depending on the size, wealth, population of the nation the government will change.
Why does democracy work anywhere?

It works in Israel, and will work in Iraq if liberal Democrat traitors would stop helping the enemies of the freedom Democrats claim to love.
