If you were in a foxhole in Iraq with another American that had a political philosophy that was the opposite of yours, would you defend that person with your life?

Of course- one of my best friends is a staunch Republican. We've even gone to blows over our politics after too many drinks, but when push comes to shove he's a brother to me and I'd go to hell to defend him.

And yes, you defend the other person with your life and count on them to do the same. No matter what they happen to believe. Debate and argument in the barracks means nothing when things start blowing up. That's the great thing about the military: you'll see blacks, whites, hispanics, catholics, jews, and whatever all working together as part of a team to accomplish a mission. The military truly is the last great melting pot in American society.

If I were in a foxhole in Iraq I wouldn't care in the least who was in there with me because I'd be too busy trying to figure a way out of the foxhole and out of the country. I have no interest whatsoever in dying for Dick Cheney and Halliburton.
