Since I started keeping track, I have had very regular cycles: between 28 and 31 days. As of tomorrow, I will be between 9 and 12 days late for my period.

All HPT's have been negative. I don't have any of the typical pregnancy symtoms except for a dull cramping that I have had for a week but I have that gut feeling that something is off with my body.

I went to the doctor today and they took blood for a pregnancy test. I get the results in the morning.

My question is, if my blood test comes back negative does that rule out a pregnancy? Could I hypothetically go out drinking Saturday night... even though the doctor can't explain why my period is late?

P.S. I'm 23, in a committed relationship and have been using contraception. I'm not trying to conceive but if I were pregnant I wouldn't want to do anything to harm my baby. This is my first pregancy scare.

I am a 39 year old mother of 4 and would like to advise you to wait until you have the test results back from your doctor. Just to be on the safe side. There could be some other issues that are causing the late period and cramping. If your doctor cannot find a reason, I suggest you get a referral to an OB/GYN. They are really good. Let's face it, sometimes GP's just guess at what the problem is. Hope this helps. Liz

If the blood test comes back negative then you're not pregnant. Obviously verify that with your doc but you should be good for a wild night out on the town!

If the test comes back negative, go with it. Just go easy on the drinking in case it's a false negative. One or two cocktails wouldn't be such a huge deal if you turned out to be pregnant after all. I have heard of women who did multiple shots of tequila and got rip-roaring drunk before finding out they were pregnant, and their babies turned out fine. It's the second trimester where you really have to watch out.

Home pregnancy tests are pretty reliable, I would be fairly confident you're not pregnant.
