Ray Emery needs to be reminded that he plays in the NHL, not the NBA or the NFL, where such incidents are so common, one hardly notices when they occur. If he wants to be a tough guy, then fine, the game of hockey resoundingly embraces that. But if he wants to be thug, he should learn to rebound or throw a block. Neither Murray nor the 29 other GMs in the league nor the league executives will stand for such antics for long. The NHL shield is one of class and integrity, and those who threaten to tarnish it quickly find themselves out of work.

Yeah, Emery is a real tough guy alright, a 65 year old man. Lucky he didn't do it to the wrong person.
It has always been my contention that Emery is the Deion Sanders of the NHL. Huge ego. Dresses the same too. I can tell he is a bad apple and I don't need to hear "his side of the story," because to me, this incident seems to go hand in hand with his demeanor. Always thought he was a jerk, he'll keep proving it. IMO, this won't be the last incident in his career.

I personally think its a little of both.

If you look back at the footage from the Feb 2006 Sens/Sabres game, rather than being angry and starting the fight he was smiling and then decided to throw punches.

So ego and anger is definately a problem for Emery. I will not however, deny his talent as a goaltender. He does deserve credit where credit is due.

If you review most goalies eddie belfour...mike palmateer, curtis joseph..etc..they have "hot head syndrome"..can't blame them for gods sake they have friggin pucks shot at them that would knock most people out..no matter what people tell you they take the blame for losing games..which leads to frustration, guilt & anger..goalie's are in a league of their own contantly under a pressure cooker.
They don't even have protection anymore..they cut their equipment size & the crease means nothing..you can literally skate on a goalie & that's ok..really they can't win. There used to be a time when you cross that crease & you were gone..so whether they are in the crease or outside the crease playing the puck they are as they say free game to all.

There's two sides to every story. It would hardly be newsworthy if Emery was a nobody. If the crown can't be bothered with charges, I doubt a civil suit will get far either.

Just one side of the story....the guy is already threatening civil action and went public with his story. Seems like he's out for a quick buck. Just my opinion...
