sorry...these are large stone walls...maybe a meter thick...at least...

Would you be speaking of Spirit walls. As in the walls placed just before or after an entrance. Spirits can only move in a straight line. The Spirit wall was made a bit wider than the entrance and the only way to go through the entrance or farther beyond the entrance anything entering would have to divert to one side or the other. The wall could be thick or the thickness of a single silk weaving.
