When she decided to run for the Senate, the Clintons purchased a home in Chappaqua, New York, north of New York City in September 1999.
She was elected on November 7, 2000 (which by my count is about 10 months). Obviously, New Yorkers were (and continue to be) more swayed by her politics then by where she makes her primary residence.

I'm trying to remember because long ago I tried looking it up and couldn't find anything.
The buzz though was she was campaigning from Washington, then moved into an apartment (I thought) in New York, then they bought a place and moved in very shortly before the election actually took place.
I'm thinking less than 30 days though.

Umm... folks, being selected as a VP to the President means they can come from any of the 50 states.
Being a Senator for one state while living in another isn't common practice. Let alone legal.

I found something... Jan. 5, 2000

Many states require a certain amount of time of prior residency in order to run for different offices. New York didn't have one. All it required, I believe was to have a residence. Hillary's rich friends all pitched in and bought her a house and she called it her new permanent residence. She had her residency only a very short time before declaring her candidacy.

You can't just run in any state. You have to establish residency, which her and Bill did in the same year (2000) she ran for the Senate. I do get a kick out of people attempting to degrade her for this. New York residents could have chosen not to elect her, but apparently it didn't bother them. If it didn't bother them why should it bother anyone else? They reelected her last November with 67% of the vote. Guess they think she's been doing a good job.

She bought a house and got a mailing address. She moved in after her election. In New York the rules are very lenient. Bobby Kennedy did the same thing and was a New York Senator before he was assassinated.

Once your a resident of a state you can run for office in that state. Some as little as 30 days. That's how carpetbagging works.
