will be $5 every day payable each morning. Then he gave the boy his first $5 bill.

Billy (who was broke before that) immediately decided that tonight he will buy ice cream to his girlfriend and himself (2 x $1.25 = $2.50), and continue to do so every day, until he has $15 to take her to the movies (2 x $7.50) instead.

On what day will they go to the movies?

On the fifth day...

After each day he has $2.50 remaining
So after 4 days he will have $10.
On the morning of the fifth day (Friday) he will receive $5 = $15 dollars total - enough for the movies!

This is a very tricky question, the answer is on what day will Billy have $15. You might think it is Saturday, but it is not. It is 5 days.

Friday he can take her to the movies because he will have $15 dollars before he spends $2.50 for ice cream.

In = $5, Out = $2.50
Daily savings = 5 - 2.50 = $2.50

1st = 2.50 (savings = $2.50)
2nd = 2.50 (savings = $5)
3rd = 2.50 (savings = $7.50)
4th = 2.50 (savings = $10)
5th = 5 (savings by morning = $15)
So he can take her out on the evening of 5th day.

well if he's spending $ 2.50 of his $5 he's only making $2.50 per day. Divide 15 by 2.5. That will give you the number of days is will take him to get $15.

Let n be the number of days Billy will spend $2.50 per day, so he have a daily savings of $2.50 until it reaches $15.

Equation : $2.50n = $15

Solution :
n = $15 / $2.50
n = 6 days

Answer : on the sixth day, which will fall on a Saturday
