art class?

Question

im planning on taking an art class outside of school this year for the first time.
its at the BBAC ((michigan)) and alot of people say that it is very good for those who are really interested in art.
but i don't know if it is worth the $260 fee plus the model fee and material fee.
im taking a class that will teach us one, two and three point perspectives and figure drawings.
i really want to start on my art portfolio and i thought this would be a good way, but do you think it is worth the money??

btw im a sophmore in highschool.

Any class you take will benefit you in some way. Every teacher is different and some are good, some great and some should not be teaching. Before you spend the money on this class, talk with some previous students and see if the material covered is what you need or want. Also, ask if you can audit one or two classes before you sign up to see if it is what you want.

I found that most of my classes in college were a waste of my time, but were required. Some teachers would come in make a verbal assignment and leave and students had to dig out the information. I guess I wanted everything spoon fed to me. I learned more on my own than from any class I took.
Making your portfolio is up to your hard work. A class is to improve your skills.

What is important is to train your brain, eyes and hands to work together. Try dedicating one afternoon a week to the library with the entire time devoted to reading about art and art history, techniques used by different artists. different art theories. color theory, dynamic symmetry. etc.

Actually do written reports for yourself on what you have found interesting.

Check your local news papers and go to gallery opening and artist exhibits. If you are going to make art your life, then start living it. Also, notice how things are displayed; how they are hung. etc

One good training practice is to carry a small tablet and pencil everywhere you go. Any time you are sitting and have a quiet moment, draw, do not look at the paper. Even draw things passing you by. Stack the images, Draw on one page for days. What you are doing is training your eye and hands to work together. Eventually you will look at that messy paper and recognize what you have been drawing. Do this practice for several months.

And DRAW, SKETCH, PAINT, READ, AND DRAW SOME MORE.

Absolutely!! Sounds like a great program to gain experience and will definitely help in the future if you decide to pursue art. If you are going to go to an art school for college, this program will let them know that you are interested and commited and might allow you to start off with some higher level classes.

You've really just got to think about how much you want it. If art is the most important thing in your life and you want to pursue art in college and stuff like that, then yes. I think if something is so important to you that you're considering that career path, then you should get as much knowledge and experience with it as you possibly can. That's a lot of money, but if it's really your life, then it's worth it. But you should be sure that it's what you want before you take it.

Absolutely! You are really smart to start your portfolio now. Studio classes are totally different from the classes you have had so far (unless you have an exceptional art program at your school). I really thiunk you will enjoy it!

if you are really in 2 art, go 4 it. It could be very fun and a good experience
