From what I have read, sprays that use DEET are just about as good as it gets. I have heard that some plants contain chemicals that will repel mosquitoes.

Citronella is made from this plant. I would not be suprised if it would be somewhat helpful.

Where are you having problems with the bugs? There are devices that attract the mosquitoes away from you and kill them. If you are just around your house and not travelling or out camping or something then one of these might be helpful.

Here is one site that makes them.

Another thing to use is bats. Some people would rather have mosquitoes than bats. I would not. Bats are great. The insectivores eat a lot of mosquitoes in a night. I have heard a lot of people say that bat houses make a difference.

Here is a site with information on building one.

Finally, how much control of your environment do you have? If you live in an area where you can control standing water and keep it from harboring the mosquito larvae then you can reduce their population. I know a lot of people are not this lucky however.

Most blood-sucking insects, such as mosquitos, are attracted by heat and bright light.

You can't do anything about your body heat, but you can use natural repellents (refer to the links, below, though I cannot vouch for their efficacy).

Good luck,
and don't let the bed bugs bite!
(sorry . . . I just HAD to say that!) ;)

Wear light coloured clothes, avoid bright colours like red or blue. Avoid going out at dawn/dusk (mosquitos are more active then).

I've seen ads for those candles you can burn that keep away bugs outdoors.

Or else... stay inside :)

Avon skin so soft is supposed to work. They will bite me through jeans. I use Repel brand eucalyptus spray, smells good and no DEET. My husband thinks it burns, it's kind of tingly. It works about as good as Off but much less offensive.

Generally, if you stay completely covered they won't bother you. If you can wear a veil perhaps that might keep your face protected.

Otherwise, try using tea-tree oil
