By the way, a metre is a unit of length, a meter is an instrument for measuring. There is a difference between the two. Thus we have metres, kilometres and millimetres but thermometers, barometers and odometers.

Every country in the world that uses metres (which is just about every country except the USA) spells the word that way. There is a useful distinction beteen a metre and a meter which is worth preserving.

about 915. There are 91.5 cm in a yard, and 10 mm per cm.

This is approxinate, of course, because you are dealing with two separate systems of measurement.
