There always saying stupid stuff like: all blacks act ghetto, whites are stuck up, asians are smart, blondes have more fun etc.
Whether its a Good stereotype or bad it bugs me so much that someone would judge a whole race, size, hair color, eye color etc. of people to act & do the same things.
So this question mainly goes out to the stereotypes out there...
why?

Okay, here's my opinion. I think stereotypes almost always start off a bit true then they get blown out of proportion. Some of them are a bit true, I know I sound very stereotypical myself when i say this, but i've never met a dumb asian person.
actually, my best friend from korea wasn't that smart, but a great drawer... i'm so jealous of good drawers

Because some people are more comfortable with being shallow like that, instead of getting to know a group on an individual basis. I think it's just a comfort thing, or a lazy thing.
And here's a stereotype breaker for you :)
I'm gothy and wear all that dark stuff AND I also have a horse and am always riding AND I'm a party chick but only have been with one man AND I love video games AND I'm an artist AND I'm a woman that doesn't want kids. Whew!
Peace :)

I think there is some truth to most stereotypes. If there wasn't, they wouldn't be stereotypes. It's important to judge people as individuals, but it is ridiculous to assume that just because stereotypes may be unpleasant that they are absolutely false. Hippopotamus's will generally kill people if given the chance, but a very, very small majority have been around people since birth and are as tame as kittens. But, stereotypically, they are man killers. In other words, if I have no information to go on besides the stereotype, I will rely on that until I am able to gather my own new information.
Edit: I think the thing you (and most people) need to realize is that people ARE different. Your social, economic, and religious background play a big role in how you turn out. If you are raised with particular values instilled there is a great chance you will have those values. Not a 100% chance, but a great chance. Hence stereotypes.

The world is full of haters! That isn't a stereotype that is just pretty much the truth. Everyone is always going to have someone in this would that they don't like. Some people just don't like some blacks, so they pretty much don't like all of them. Some people think the asian people are very smart so they think that they are all smart.
There will always be sterotypes!

Stereotypes are based on a perceived truth that someone has directed towards a certain group. I agree that people should be judged on their own merit; however, many people believe it is easier to stereotype than to get to know the individual personality. Stereotypes are an easy way to avoid the responsibility of getting to individual people.

that's just the way life is. it sucks but oh well! everyone wants everyone to look a different way, that's why we all bump heads and find different friends with the people we most enjoy. instead of asking this question on yahoo answers you could be out volunteering at a high school to give a seminar on prejudice and its deep painful affects! how about you try to help out the gay community instead of making us look like freaks and calling us "stereotyped people." not all of us have been stereotyped! so stop. and do something useful to help this problem!

The only stereotype I follow is if a guy has two first names, like Steven Michaels, or Richard Todd. People with two first names are always EVIL. It's the truth. If you have two first names, just learn to live with your evilness, don't even try and fight it.
Also, for clarification. "There" and "They're" are two different words with different meanings. You also propagated a stereotype with this question about people who use stereotypes. Just so you know.

People have and always will be judgemental. Thats just the way it is.
I hate stereotypes!
Judging ppl based on appearence or beliefs is wrong. An individual is just that--an INDIVIDUAL!
No two people are alike even if they do look the same.

I think that some of it....and I say SOME of it has been influenced a lot by the media.
The Media influences us by the way we view these indviduals and groups by what everyday society views them as...
Of course it gets me angry when I see people defining us as part of some group..but then I see..its only the way in which society itself has moulded us into believing...so no one is really to blame..When we only have ourselves to blame for carrying this on.

because it's far easier to judge a whole group of people at once based on ignorance than to take the time and actually get to know the true person
