7x - 5 is answer

2007-09-09 23:31:05 · answer #1 · answered by Como 7 · 2 0

Combining like terms is very simple. It is no different than simple addition and subtraction. You can only combine terms that have the same variable, eg: x,y,z,a,b,c, etc.

Whatever sign is in front of the number determines if it is positive or negative. So in this case: 3x+2+4x-7 , the 3 is positive, the 2 is positive, the 4 is positive and the 7 is negative.

You can rearrange the problem like this:
3x+4x+2+(-7)

Solve the problem now:
7x - 5

Hope this helps! PM me if you have anymore questions!
