If you have too many keys or heavy decorations on your key ring, you can actually damage the lock mechanism on a car over time. The key will stop working easily, and you'll have to "jiggle" it to get it to connect properly. It can even lock up and strand you. (I speak from unpleasant experience here.) Replacing the lock can be as much as $200, so better to keep the number of keys down.
I currently have one key on my car key ring, and keep all the do-dads and decorations on the house-key ring, separately.

2 House key, 1 for my toyota 1 for my mits eclipse, key for po box, key for lock box in bank, storage key, 2 keys to my brother's house, key for front door at my job so that is a total of 9

One, just my car key.
Inside my locked console of my car are a set of various keys that I can get to when I need them, without schlepping them with me everywhere.
