i want to plant a tropical(ish) garden with aloe, sago, agave, cactus. but i know little. i need help like do i need to put a barrier down for weeds, how deep to plant the plants.

When I did landscaping we placed the potted plants in the prepared bed, Step back, look, kick a bucket, look....plunk em. Never plant a plant deeper than it is in the pot, higher is prefferable if mulching over the bed.

7 - 9 layers of newspaper and mulch are far superior to "weed cloth" as a deterrant to weeds. More efficient, easier to work with, cheaper too.

Choose plants that you love, you can't go wrong playing in the dirt, because you'll learn from your successes and failures.
