I'm trying to get hold of about 50 old oil drums to dress a set with. Any ideas would be most welcome. Thank you.

I'm London based and will consider metal or plastic drums.

Try any local manufacturer approved bike dealer, most of these guys are not large enough to get oil in bulk tankers and will more often than not get the oil delivered in metal drums. Certainly all Harley-Davidson and Honda Dealers do, try a search on the web as you have at least 6 H-D Dealers within the M25. They have to pay to get rid of them, so you should get them for free

i used to work at a car wash and the chemicals that we used came in plastic 55 gallon drums.. we give empty drums away to whoever wanted them but if you cant settle for plastic drums then maybe try a quick lube garage.. maybe contact the local fairgrounds.. they might be able to put you in contact with the person that holds on to all those drums they use for setting up the parking areas

Tough to say about England, but I will tell you my favorite ways to find them in America.

1. Newspaper - The free for the asking section in the classifieds has them all the time. Use the equivalent in your newspaper.
2. Any place that has vehicles that does fleet mantinence. They usually pay to get rid of them, it may take a few places to get all of them.
3. Scrap metal dealers or recycle centers, they buy metals here by the pound/ton as well as sell them. I think you could buy them by the kilo there.

I just got a couple myself from a scrap yard, I either use them to burn yard waste or as a table when I weld.

Props Master eh ? Well, in California it's difficult to get used ones because of health and safety issues. And FIFTY is quite a number to obtain !!

I'd check with a LARGE car dealership / garage, a cleaning supply store, or a scrap yard.

Budget in taking them to a steam-cleaner to eliminate residue, fumes, etc.

GOOD LUCK

If it's for a set, you may like to think about making a stack from large cardboard tubes / hardboard / thin plywood, with beading round for the bumps. It could be a lot lighter and much cheaper.

Maybe you could cut some in half vertically and save on weight and numbers?

Contact your local Carribean steel drum band, they have to get their instruments from somewhere.
