I think wiccans have more of a sense of humor than other religious groups.
Whereas you'll see burnings of Last Temptation of Christ by Christians or jihad being called on Salman Rushdie, you won't see us steam rolling DVDs of Charmed and Wizard of Oz.
We laugh it off as nonsense.

Does the way witches are portrayed in the Wizard of Oz offend me, actually no more so than some other things dealing with stereo-typing does… at least there are good aspects in the movie!
I love that movie… it shows some really real concepts… different dimensions… as where the Land of Oz is. Is it really in her mind from a head injury or is it latterly that she has traveled out of body to a different dimension of reality?
Reality is that there are truly Good Witches and Bad Witches, just as there are good Christians and Bad Christians, Good Jews and Bad Jews… in every walk of life you are going to have the good ones, and the bad ones, that is reality. So, to be honest I like that at least in the Wizard of Oz we are not portrayed as ALL BAD! So, yes, I like that.
I think the most important part of the movie is not the witches… but the magic! The fact that REAL magic… comes from within! The Lion already had courage, just had to find it… within. The Tin Man already had a heart, he just had to find it within and the Scarecrow had his too… all he had to do was find that personal magic that resides within all of us. And well, Dorothy always had the power to get home… it was right there within her!
I will admit though that I do not like the Witch always being the BAD guy… because if anyone knows any real witches they discover that we are really loving, caring, and tolerantly spiritual individuals.

Not as a wiccan, but answering as a witch: no. It's better than the salem witch hunts. If you're laughing and trying not to kill us, it's not that bad. Besides, it's a kids story. There has to be a bad guy, right?

No. That's about fictional witches and the like. That has nothing to do with the Wiccan religion. This is also why I don't describe myself as a "witch" in public discussions; I am a "Wiccan priest" or "member of the Wiccan religion" or just "Wiccan."

Nope not at all! Although Wiccan, I do not refer to myself as a "witch" due to simple personal preference. But even if I did, I would hope not to be as ugly as that old witch in Oz!

No not really, then we would be offended by everyone else too. And that is dumb. Why be mad about something you can't control. And anyways its just someone elses perception, and a lot of the worlds stereotypical view of wiches and wiccans.
Our job should not be being offended but proving that we aren't that way.

The Wizard of Oz at least portays good as well as bad witches. Anyway - it's "storybook" magic and it was originally written a very long time ago! I think most people can take it for what it is.
I'm just annoyed because the lollipop guild turned me down............ I tell you, the unions are running Munchkinland into the *ground* these days!

No. It's a movie. I actually enjoy that movie. Fantasy witches have always and probably will always be portrayed that way, but it doesn't matter since they're not real.
