jk rowling has stated that she is currently at work on two books, neither of them about the harry potter characters.
the suggestion that one of them is a detective novel is not one i have seen from any reliable source.

Although she has not specified whether they will be a series, she does intend to write more books in a different genra. There were reports that she was working on a mystery however this apparently started as a joke. The only thing she has stated is her desire to continue to write. She will not be writing any more books with Harry Potter and the main protagonist and is not sure if she will revisit the wizarding world. She may write a "Potter Encyclopedia" which will contain information she had to cut from her series as well as information on the characters in the future.

It has been reported that she's been spotted in cafes near where she lives, working on a dectective novel.
Ms. Rowling has said herself that she will write about whatever ideas that made her excited, like she did with Harry Potter.
She has also said that she may write an encyclopedia of sorts pertaining to all the background information and the backstories that did not make it into her Harry Potter series.

Like someone has already said, the "Potter Encyclopedia" is something she might do. I've also heard from a reliable source (a website, not a person) that she's going to write a series that is VERY unlike Harry Potter. Don't know just what it WAS about, though.

Maybe she will.Maybe like Emily Rhodda she wrote Deltora Quest and then another series similar to it(Rowin of Rin).Or maybe she will write something that is nowhere near to Harry Potter.Or maybe she just won't write another series at all.

Yes. But she is taking her time and they are going to be a different kind of book from Harry Potter. Check Wikipedia for more info.

She has said that she won't rule it out, though she doesn't think another one would be the hit that Harry Potter has been (i.e., lightning won't strike twice). I believe writing gets in your blood, though, and I can't imagine her not getting inspired by another character, no matter how much money she's made off of Harry.

I don't think so but her new book is a crime novel and THAT may become another series if she so wishes it to be. I guess we'll have to wait and see about that.

i only heard/read that she was gonna begin writing crime books.
anything that she will write im sure will be a delight to all her fans and readers out there
