I would agree that some people may lean in that direction when it comes to immigration, but I would say that there are probably more people in the center that lean left, then the other way around. Don't forget that New York and California are both liberal states. With the exception of the southern states, and places like Iowa, Oklahoma, Texas and Idaho, I think that the rest of the nation is more toward the center.

Do you mean a backlash since the 2006 elections? If so, I doubt it. It is interesting that the Democrats retook control of the House by nominating a number of "middle-of-the-road" Democrats rather than members of the far left, which might be thought of as a kind of compliment to conservative ideals, but nonetheless the 2006 elections seemed to be a repudiation of conservatism rather than an embrace.

Sometimes I have to think there is some truth to that.

Take a look at the news about the young woman on Southwest Airlines that told she couldn't fly because of the way she was dressed and received a lecture in a public place by an airline employee about what constitutes "appropriate dress." She was dressed fine.

It seem like the values of the Taliban - or as I refer to the Americanized version - the Talibabtists.

Surprising. It's hard to tell trends from down here in the trenches, I'm either surrounded by liberals or conservatives with different opinions and all think they are right. I'm curious: old fashioned or neocon ideals are on the rise, according to what you read?

Yes, I agree! The mood of the country is definitely turning more conservative. Reporters are having a hard time covering up for our military successes in Iraq. The propaganda tricks they used to use to misreport good economic news are now viewed skeptically by the American public. This includes all the phony surveys and one-sided interviews with liberal "experts" that used to work for them in the past.

The Republicans are in the mist of a political re-building season right now. It will be interesting to see if some of the moderate Republicans that were turned out in 2006 will be replaced with more conservative Republicans in 2008.

Conservatives (specifically neo-conservatives) are simply more effective in getting their message out to a wider audience. Whether or not those people would actually adhere to those same views is, at best, inconclusive.

It's called propaganda... That's what our news has become, nothing more and nothing less. It's sure doing a good job getting people to hate each other, many posts on here are proof of that! If they were preaching love and peace it would be all different. People need to quit being sheep.

Sorry far-left liberals. It appears that some of your Noam Chomsky study group members might not be so keen on giving their money away.
