Alison is a lovely name. A bit dated at the moment, as some have pointed out, but with the current trend toward the masculine -son names for girls, Alison would certainly fit right in (in a refreshing, genuinely-feminine -son name sort of way). ;)
For what it's worth, this is definitely my favorite spelling. I'm not sure why the above comment attempted to indicate otherwise, but Alison, with one L, is the traditional spelling. It is generally taken as a form of Alice -- which I also love! -- after all. ;) Allison is simply the most common variant.
And I just have to address the "alision and wonder land" quote above. What?! Please don't let someone's odd inability to remember such a well-known book and movie as a negative here. After all, I'm certain no one else has ever heard of that one. The rest of us all read/saw "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Alice in Wonderland." LOL

Well, I think that Alison is a lovely name. Seeing as how that is my name, only missing an "L". I don't think it is over used. I am 25 and have only met a hand full of of people with my name. Really what it comes down to is what you think and like, not what anyone else thinks.

This is kind of a silly question. What should you care how strangers like the name Alison. If you like it go for it. Dont' be a follower or a people pleaser, do what you like. You dont' need everyone to validate what you do, do you? Its a great name. Good luck.

I like it but it is becoming popular like Jennifer and Jessica did in the 1980s...I think it is getting to be over used. I would keep looking for a more unique version of it or find a more unique name.

I have a cousin named Allison May. I think Allison looks prettier when spelled with 2 L's.

I like Allison. Cute, Feminine, and the diminutive of "Allie" is great.
Though I doubt my wife would let me name a daughter such since we have a Austrailian Border Collie named "Allie".
